What does fish oil do for you besides promote heart health?
Helps with depression, and helps with memory… good for your brain.
What foods are really good for heart health-OK, I know oatmeal,?
bananas, yogurt, grape juice - what else?
pomegranite juice, cranberries, whole wheat bread ( no sugar or high fructose corn syrup). fish and more fish especially wild red salmon from alaska, cabbage, kale, spinach, broccoli, brown rice, salads with olive oil and vinegar, kiwis, oranges, cooker tomatos and sauce(not too much salt or oil), sardines from spain, olive oil from spain, make sure it is cold pressed extra virgin, a little red wine each day, FILL UP WITH FIBER. oh yeah lots of blueberries.
Mostly avoid the bad stuff. oil that is not canola or olive, saturated fats, sugar, anything white (except tuna) , fats of the wrong kind but omega 3 fats are good.
Does weight training help improve your heart health ?
I know that cardio is excellent for your heart and lungs. But, when I’m lifting weights my heart obviously beats pretty fast as I lift and for quite a while after, obviously supplying oxygen, blood etc to where it’s needed. I also sweat a fair bit for about an hour after a good workout too.
My question is, is lifting weights helping me to maintain a healthy heart ? I’m not really talking about fat loss aspect, but rather the raise in heart rate, does it have the same benefits as doing a cardio work out ?
Thanks guys.
if you can lift weights at a rate that will keep your heart beating in that target HR range; then yes, it'll do pretty much the same thing as a cardio exercise.
most likely though, with lifting heavier weights; that's not happening.
At what age is it proper to start thinking about heart health?
I eat what ever I want and drink all the time but I do not smoke. I am normal weight for my age(35) and there is no history of heart problems in my family.
My two year old niece knows about healthy food and exercise, so it's never too soon. If you're not overweight and your family doesn't have heart problems, make sure you're exercising and getting into the doctor at least once every 24 months for a physical and cholesterol check and you should be fine.
