What is the best exercise to trim down my growing gut?

October 11, 2008 · Filed Under Exercise · 3 Comments

My appetite has grown a little bit recently, and so has by gut. I am just wondering what exercise is the best known that will flatten my gut back to where it was. Don't say pushing away from the table, because I have cut down on my intake. I want an exercise that specifically works on the gut.

It's called "push away from the table".

What exercise to do for the back of my arms?

October 8, 2008 · Filed Under Exercise · 7 Comments

My upper arms on the back are really flabby. What can I do to tone this area? I'm not sure which exercise is the best. Thanks!
Okay, let me rephrase this. I have no idea what muscle it is, and I have no idea what exercise terms mean. Can an answerer please just tell me how to move my arm with a dumbbell in it?

Take a can of soup in each hand (or use weights if you have them). Raise both hands to the ceiling as high as you can (with hands touching) and then bend your elbows so that your hands go back behind your head and then back up straight.
Keep your elbows near your head.
Do this several times and you will feel it working in the back of your arms.
Good luck! :-)

What exercise is best to reduce the chin and cheek fat?

I have a normal weight and eat right. Also, i exercise vigorously for an hour and a half. Don“t eat sugars nor oily foods. But i cant reduce the chin nor cheeks.

You might want to look into incorporating fasting into your routine. Fasting plus exercise can really work wonders….

What's a good way to exercise my dog indoors during cold or wet weather?

October 3, 2008 · Filed Under Exercise · 5 Comments

I live in a cold climate, and in winter my small dog puts on weight because she isn't getting exercised enough.

It's easy for me to exercise indoors in the gym or by putting on an exercise DVD, but how can I encourage her to maintain fitness indoors?

I have plenty of indoor games for my dogs…and we are in an apartment with two 70 lb. dogs!

I play fetch by throwing a tennis ball down the hallway or bouncing it off the wall (I have very nice neighbors.)

We play hide and seek. My husband keeps them in one room, while I go hide, then he releases them and tells them to find me.

We play follow the leader (actually my husband likes this game more than me,) where he basically just walks around and around the apartment and the dogs follow him.

And tug of war.

What exercise is effective at lifting depression and how often should you do it?

September 30, 2008 · Filed Under Exercise · 17 Comments

I have decided to stop taking St Johns Wort now so I can go back on the pill as my hormones make my depression worse however I am feeling the effects of not taking this. I already take fish oil but I understand exercise can be as effective as an anti-depressant and wondered what experiences other people had. Serious answers only please.

Exercise is only one step in getting depression under control (note I wrote control and not get rid of; people almost always have residual depression but it is controlled). The first and most important thing is doctor prescribed meds; those have saved more lives inflicted by depression than "natural" alternatives. The second thing is talk therapy. While depression is usually caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, there are almost always reasons that the depression manifested itself. Talk therapy helps you get at the root of the depression and helps you work with the behavioral manifestations that come with depression (cutting yourself off from others, seeing things negatively, etc). The third thing is exercise, but exercise in a gym or on a exercise bike at home is not as healthy as walking or doing things in the fresh air. Gym work and exercise bikes keep you in one place where your mind can return to dwelling on your feelings. Being out in the fresh air walking, running, swimming, etc releases your mind from the concentration on the depression.
