How many pounds does it take for weight loss to be visible?

August 31, 2008 · Filed Under Weight Loss · 13 Comments

So let's say that someone is short (around 5'2"), someone else is taller (mediumish), and the last person is tallest (6'0").

If they all weigh the same, how many pounds of weight would it take to make the weight loss visible?

What other factors should be considered?

It all depends how much someone weighs to begin with, it doesn't really have anything to do with height. The bigger the person is, in terms of WEIGHT not height, then the more weight they have to loose for it to be noticeable. The thinner the person, the less weight there is to loose, the more noticeable. First signs of weight loss are generally in the face, but that's because that's the part one looks at the most and notices more.

What are some really easy, healthy food ideas?

I'm 18, weigh around 135, and I'm 5'3. I have a lot of muscle so I don't really look like I weigh that much, yet I still want to lose some weight. I exercise every day but fast food is much easier than having to fix something. Therefore, I would really appreciate some ideas for quick, easy, healthy meals or snacks!

doea alot of exercise effect your heart health?

I joined the gym about 5 months ago and i run about 5 miles everyday do 1 hour in the oliptical and do weights lately i have been fealing disconfort like in my left side of my chest should i see a doctor for i can get a physical to see if im healthy enough to do what im doing or is it all in my head because i suffer from alot of anxiety attacks i know how to control them but could that be why i feel disconfort i also read that the farther left the pain/disconfort is the less likely it could be a heart problem because usually heart problems will develope in the middle of the chest can anyone help?

Most definitely, go and get a physical. Exercise impacts everyone differently. It is dependent on so many things like history, diet, genetics, etc. A doctor could advise you better, but I would recommend as well getting a heart rate monitor. That way, particularly with running, you get an idea of where you are at in your "optimal" heart rate zone. Depending on what you are wanting to get out of your exercise regimen, knowing where your heart rate is can help you reach it. For example, if you are looking to burn calories, it is best to be in a lower range like 120 to 150. If you are looking to increase your stamina and cardio endurance, you would want to be in the 150 to 170 range. However, since we are all different, I would recommend speaking with a physician before taking those numbers as fact since we are all different. Cardio exercise, although it works the muscles differently than weightlifting, is similar in at least one way. Just like weightlifting breaks down the muscles as we lift so they will build up stronger, cardio exercise does the same thing to the heart. Just like if you lift too much weight or do too many reps, you can hurt your muscles, you can do the same to your heart. So, go see a doctor and see what he/she recommends and go from there.

I am a 16 year old vegan and have been since i was 8. i excersize often. my family is at super high risk of diabetes (my grandpas on both sides had it, my grandma and uncle have it) my family eats nothing but crap! my dad looks like he is going to keel over and have a heart attack everytime he moves. im not saying i want them to become vegans like i am, but i think their eating habbits definatly need to change. our fridge and pantries are full with poptarts, chips, candy, whole milk, but the thing is if they arent eating that they are eating taco bell, in and out, but tonight it was pizza.
i try to encourage them to atleast eat subway, or atleast buy whole wheat pasta… little things. but they refuse. i ask them to do pilates or yoga or jog or wlak with me but they say later.
what do i do? i tell them i dont want them to get sick. what procedures should i take to help them become more healthy?
i mean they dont have to become health freaks and start chomping on tofu… but i dont want my dad to have a hearft attakc. and my brother is chubby and going into 7th grade… and i dont want him to be made fun of!!
they arent inshape so what would be a good excversize plan to start them with? how do i get them to do it? just give me help!!!

well you should tell them the benefits of healthy eating and exercising and what can happen if they dont

What kind of exercise does swimming do for you?

August 31, 2008 · Filed Under Exercise · 3 Comments

I'm considering swimming every other night for outdoor exercise. But at the moment, I want to lose weight, not gain muscle. Is swimming the best exercise for me? And what does it help with? Thanks.

I have to swim because I have Arthritis. In fact I go Aqua Jogging and was told last week that I have good muscle mass? I am 5 foot 3 inches, weigh 55 kilo, have lost weight but do not see any muscle mass? I see weight loss, agree to that and a lot of weight loss, but no muscle mass?
Swimming means you are exercising in water, so almost weight less therefore less strain on joints and freer movement. I find I can move better in the water than on dry land, in fact last week I wanted to stay in the Pool for the rest of my life. Likewise swimming helps with the cardio vascular system, breathing, increase heart rate and it is exhausting. Others in my group are attending to loose weight and they are loosing it without adding any muscle that I can see.
